It appears one of the twenty victims of a berserk knives brandishing student, is doing okay in light of what the Washington Post called a “post-stabbing selfie” he took on Instagram Wednesday Morning.
Nate Scimio of Franklin Regional High School in Pittsburgh, PA stands in his hospital gown pointing to his bandaged wrist while holding his phone camera up to a mirror. The photo was taken after a frightening morning when a 16-year-old male student at the school wandered through the hallways “flashing two knives around.”
On Wednesday, Thomas Seefeld, the Murrysville police chief, said in a news conference that police arrived at the school to find “a chaotic scene outside, with people running everywhere.” Chief Seefeld said that twenty people were stabbed–19 students and one security guard, who suffered a stomach wound. Four victims sustained critical injuries. One of the injured students was airlifted to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.
The knife-wielding suspect, who suffered some hand injuries, was arrested and taken into police custody. The alleged perpetrator had been detained by the time the police had arrived, due to the brave actions of the assistant principal who tackled him and the school resource officer who handcuffed him. “I think it could have been a lot worse if there wasn’t immediate interaction that occurred,” Seefeld said.
“I was shocked and saddened upon learning of the events that occurred this morning as students arrived at Franklin Regional High School,” Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett (R) said in a statement. “As a parent and grandparent, I can think of nothing more distressing than senseless violence against children. My heart and prayers go out to all the victims and their families.”
