A day after President Barack Obama triumphantly declared that 7.1 million Americans enrolled in Obamacare, one of the leading healthcare companies said that 15-20% of its “enrollees” are not covered because they have not paid their premiums.
According a report in National Journal, roughly “80 to 85 percent of people” who selected a plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield, which participates in nearly every state’s exchange program, have actually paid.
A spokesman for Blue Cross Blue Shield told the publication on Wednesday that the numbers are for “policies that took effect Feb. 1 or earlier.”
As the New York Times and Breitbart News have noted, the 20% figure is a conservative estimate and, if applied to the nationwide enrollment numbers, it would mean that only “5.7 and 6 million people” are covered.
Many of those may also be Americans who were kicked off their insurance policies because of Obamacare — even though Obama promised otherwise. As Breitbart News has reported, Obamacare has enrolled “just 1.7% of America’s 48.6 million uninsured,” even though the law promised “universal coverage.”
