Glenn Beck and FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe are coming to a major Tea Party rally in Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s back yard – and McConnell primary challenger Matt Bevin is a featured speaker.
The event, dubbed FreePAC Kentucky by host organization FreedomWorks, will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center at 1 pm on Saturday in downtown Louisville. The location was strategic: FreedomWorks has endorsed Bevin in the primary there.
Besides the McConnell-Bevin contest two other major GOP primary elections are also coming up soon, including Senate primaries in Nebraska (May 13) and Mississippi (June 3). Mississippi state senator Chris McDaniel, who has received the FreedomWorks endorsement in the June 3 Mississippi Republican U.S. Senate primary in which he is challenging incumbent Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS), is also a featured speaker.
Other high profile speakers include former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino, who is running as a Republican for Congress in Maryland, California Republican Congressional candidate Igor Birman, Fox News Contributor Deneen Borelli, and Wetumpka, Alabama Tea Party leader Becky Gerritson.
The FreePAC Kentucky website describes the event as “a national grassroots gathering of patriots committed to restoring freedom from the bottom up.” Activists who attend will be able “to connect with citizen activists from around the country dedicated to restoring the American dream.”
More importantly, FreedomWorks says that activists who attend will be able to “learn the tools and techniques to build a Principled Action Community that can take America back from the Washington Establishment.”
FreedomWorks made news on Friday when it switched its endorsement in the Nebraska Republican U.S. Senate primary from State Treasurer Shane Osborn to Midland University President Ben Sasse. FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe explained that the endorsement switch was due to the alignment of Osborn with Senate Minority Leader McConnell. Kibbe said it was “clear that Shane Osborn formed allegiances with Mitch McConnell and the K Street lobbying class.”
Unlike Kentucky and Mississippi, the incumbent Republican senator is not running for re-election in Nebraska.
