In the wake of California State Senator Leland Yee’s (D) indictment over arms trafficking and public corruption, Senate Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg says Yee has until Friday to resign, or he will be suspended.

As Bretibart News reported on March 26th, Yee was indicted after offering to help an undercover FBI agent procure “$500,000 to $2.5 million [worth of weapons], including shoulder fired automatic weapons and missiles.”

Prior to this, Yee voted “yea” on an “assault weapons” ban for California and supported the ban on lead hunting ammunition. He also co-sponsored legislation expanding the “list of crimes that disqualify an individual from firearms ownership.”

According to The Sacremento Bee, Pro Tem Steinberg stood “flanked by at least 16 of his colleagues” when he “characterized the charges against Yee … as extraordinary.” Steinberg expressed “anger and revulsion” over the details of Yee’s indictment and said that he would be “stripped of his committee chairmanship and all of his committee assignments.”
