Some claim global warming is responsible for the melting of arctic ice. Even worse, Chipotle restaurants claim it is responsible for the possible elimination of guacamole from its menu. According to the annual report of Chipotle Restaurants, some of their popular ingredients are becoming scarce due to climate change.

“Increasing weather volatility or other long-term changes in global weather patterns, including any changes associated with global climate change, could have a significant impact on the price or availability of some of our ingredients,” the report stated. Unfortunately for guacamole lovers, avocadoes are becoming too expensive and may be taken off the menu due to weather-related problems. According to a news report from WPIX in New York, scientists predict a 40% drop in the avocado crop over the next decade, causing the price to spike.

“In the event of cost increases with respect to one or more of our raw ingredients, we may choose to temporarily suspend serving menu items, such as guacamole or one or more of our salsas, rather than paying the increased cost for the ingredients,” the report stated.

But don’t despair. Chipotle representative Chris Arnold, in his interview with the LA Times on Wednesday, said that it was just a routine disclosure: “As a public company… we are required to disclose any potential issues that could have potential impact on our business, and we do that very thoroughly.”

“The sky is not falling,” Arnold said. “We have guac in all of our restaurants.”
