Gabrielle Giffords’ gun control super PAC, Americans for Responsible Solutions (ARS), raised nearly $12.5 million in 2013.
The Huffington Post reported that ARS raised $6.6 million in the first six months of 2013, which was “more than any other super PAC.” They raised approximately $5.8 million to finish out the year.
According to USA Today, in the last half of 2013, ARS benefited from big donations from “Texas-based Mostyn Law Firm,” which gave $500,000, and “Silicon Valley venture capitalist Andrew Rappaport,” who gave $100,000.
Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly plan to use the money to get pro-gun control candidates elected to Congress in November.
According to The Center of Public Integrity, ARS’s fundraising performance was indicative of “liberal-aligned super PACs [which] combined to raise more than $40 million” in 2013. On the other hand, conservative-aligned super PACs raised a combined $20 million.
Michael Bloomberg’s gun control super PAC, Independence USA, “raised nearly $6 million last year.” That money will also be used in an attempt to impact congressional elections in November.
