Public University Professor: Osama Bin Laden Was a Freedom Fighter

An undergraduate student can expect to pay $13,683 per year, not including room and board, to attend the university of Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. If he takes Emmit Evans’ class on World Food Systems, that student can also expect to learn that Osama bin Laden was a freedom fighter and that the U.S. is a “neocolonial power,” that props up totalitarian regimes.

Evans, a political science lecturer, teaches from a textbook that he co-authored, “The Other World” which asserts that, “The Al Qaeda movement of Osama bin Laden is one example of an attempt to free a country (in this case, Saudi Arabia) from a corrupt and repressive regime propped up by a neocolonial power (in this case, the United States).” The instructor insists that his writings are “empirical, not normative.” Moreover, as a student in his “World Food Systems” class, one will also learn how to make a positive change. According to Aaron Bandler, a junior who took Evans’ class, “His examples of positive change were all stuff like Occupy Wall Street, the Arab Spring, and raising the minimum wage.”

The political science teacher was questioned by Fox News. Evans said that there was a bias to his class but that it was “on sustainability. We do not focus on ‘the other side’ — how we might build more unsustainable food systems.” But according to Aaron Bandler, very little of the class actually spoke to “sustainable food systems.” He wrote on a blog called the College Fix that, “At this point, are you thinking what I am thinking? The class is called ‘World Food Systems.’ When do we talk about food? It came up here and there. We learned corn ethanol damages the environment, genetically modified food is an abomination, chemicals in food hurt humans, topics such as that.”

Aaron explained that the rest of the course was dedicated to espousing progressive ideas and fostering an indoctrination of left wing ideologies. He sums the course up like this: “Big Oil and greedy capitalists are the reason for the war in the Middle East, the reason Global Warming is (not might be) destroying the planet, and the reason why a new world order based on equality and fairness must emerge. It’s also the reason we, as students, must rise up and take action against these evils. Oh yeah, and al-Qaeda is just a bunch of freedom fighters.”

Evans showed the students a clip from Al Gore’s documentary “An Inconvenient Truth” but failed to bring up any opposing ideas such as that the U.K. has acknowledged that nine different scenes are factually incorrect. What is more, Aaron said that last fall Evans invited a Covered California representative to make a presentation in class about the Affordable Care Act. The speaker tried to convince the class that Obamacare is a great thing and we should all sign up.

Bandler said that the teacher never once spoke about the tea party. Fox news inquired as to why Evans was remiss in not even mentioning the tea party. He replied, “Nice idea… I’ll check out Tea Party agendas and activities regarding their approach to sustainability. Would you have any suggestions on a good place to start?”
