UPDATE 12:43 PM PST: McCain has been censured by a voice vote at the Arizona Republican Party State Committeemen meeting. This is his second censure by the Arizona GOP this month and the sixth of Arizona’s fifteen counties to censure McCain.
ORIGINAL STORY: A group of Arizona GOP Committeemen are pushing for a censure of Senator John McCain (R-AZ) at the mandatory meeting of Arizona Republican Party State Committeemen on January 25th.
The meeting is being held in Phoenix and is expected to last all day, perhaps even late into the night.
Republican chairman Timothy Schwartz (Dist. 30) is sponsoring the censure, which follows the passage of a censure of McCain by Maricopa County Republicans on January 11, 2014.
The Maricopa County Republican censure cited a list of grievances, including McCain’s “long and terrible record of drafting, co-sponsoring and voting for legislation best associated with liberal Democrats, such as Amnesty, funding for ObamaCare, the debt ceiling, liberal nominees, [and] assaults on the Constitution and 2nd amendment.”
The censure is not on the docket for the January 25th mandatory meeting but will be offered as a “Resolution to Censure John McCain” from the floor.
