Forget the fact that Jim Jones was a San Francisco liberal who practiced “apostolic socialism.” the latest high-profile hire by our unifying president is quoted comparing the GOP to a death cult. Politico’s Glenn Thrush reports that new White House advisor John Podesta believes that Obama is up against “a cult worthy of Jonestown,” meaning of course Republicans.
Via his verified Twitter account, Podesta apologized Wednesday:
—
In an old interview, my snark got in front of my judgment. I apologize to Speaker Boehner, whom I have always respected.

What we have here is yet one more misstep by an Obama Administration collapsing under the weight of its own incompetence. With his health care program self-destructing, Obama has built no positive legacy. With only three years left in his presidency, Obama has to get something done if he’s going to salvage that legacy. Podesta’s skill is the flexing of presidential power through executive action. But Obama has already drained that well pretty dry.
Obama’s only real hope is to work on Big Things with a Republican Party that is almost certain to hold the House through 2016 and may even capture the Senate. Hiring a toxic partisan like Podesta is a terrible move, and already House Speaker John Boehner has made his disappointment known:
Earlier Wednesday, a Boehner (R-Ohio) spokesman noted the [death cult] quote and said it speaks volumes about Podesta’s hiring.
“If this is the attitude of the new White House, it’s hard to see how the president gets anything done again,” Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck told Roll Call.
Since his days in the Clinton White House straight through to his work with the Center for American Progress (which helped launch Media Matters), Podesta is known primarily as a bitter, divisive partisan.
Apparently, President Obama doesn’t think there are enough of those in his White House.
