Rep. Amash: Budget Deal Raises Taxes on 'Millions of Americans'

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) said he voted against the budget deal brokered between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) on Thursday because it raises taxes on millions of Americans. 

“Tonight, I voted against a budget deal that increases federal spending by tens of billions of dollars and raises taxes on millions of Americans,” he wrote on his Facebook page. 

He said the deal “unwinds a bipartisan agreement from 2011 that capped spending at lower levels.”

“Unfortunately, Republicans and Democrats in Washington can’t seem to control themselves, and our children and grandchildren are paying the price,” he said. “I’ll never forget why I was sent to Congress: to follow the Constitution, defend liberty, and represent *you*–not political class insiders.”

The deal, which increases spending beyond the sequester levels and raises so-called “fees” on airline travelers, passed the House by a 332-94 vote.
