Speaking at a fundraiser in Medina, Washington on Sunday, President Obama accused Republicans of attempting to block legislation in order to posture for the 2014 election cycle – and then, incredibly, added that he was “not a particularly ideological person.” He said, “More than anything, what we’re looking for is not the defeat of another party. What we’re looking for is the advancement of ideas. But to do that, we’re going to need Nancy Pelosi as speaker, because there’s a lot of work to be done right now.”
Of course, President Obama kept the government shut down for nearly three weeks because he refused to make changes to or delay the implementation of his signature program – and now, even Obama’s own allies are attempting to delay Obamacare’s implementation, meaning that he was so ideological that he overrode the reality of the poor Obamacare rollout for political reasons. . His intransigence on Obamacare in the first place meant that it passed without a single Republican vote. Obama’s current policy on Iran is so solidly ideological that even his fellow Democrats have expressed discomfort with it.
President Obama is perhaps the most ideologically-motivated president in American history. But according to the ultimate authority, Barack Obama, he’s a mere pragmatist.
