In Dupo, Illinois, fourth graders at Buffview Elementary are reading a biography of President Obama that is beginning to raise major concerns for parents and members of the community. The book is entitled Barack Obama and is written by Jane Sutcliffe and published by Lerner.
This book complies with the new “Common Core Standards” that are being pushed forward in states all across the country. In order to comply with the new standards, local school districts have begun to introduce new books and curriculum into their teaching.
This particular book makes the hasty generalization that all white voters would have refused to vote for Obama because of his race. It continues to say that Obama made race a part of his campaign, and that is why he won.
“But some people said Americans weren’t ready for that much change. Sure Barack was a nice fellow, they said. But white voters would never vote for a black president,” the book claims. “Other angry voices were raised. Barack’s former pastor called the country a failure. God would damn the United States for mistreating its black citizens, he said.”
This is not the first time we have seen new books introduced to comply with Common Core Standards have subversive political agendas. Just last month there was a story that detailed a textbook being used in Texas that literally rewrote the Constitution.
Illinois Review initially reported on this story and said that they have reached out to the school to find out whether more parents have complained about this book being introduced into their children’s curriculum. According to Illinois Review, 4th grade students will be tested on this book’s contents.
