In the wake of incidents in which police have shot children who aim a toy or BB gun at them, California state senator Noreen Evans (D-Santa Rosa) is pushing a law mandating toy and BB guns be painted bright colors.
On October 23rd, Breitbart News reported that Santa Rosa, CA police shot and killed 13-year old Andy Lopez when he refused to drop a gun that turned out to be a replica rather than real.
Senator Evans focused specifically on the death of Lopez when announcing her proposed “Imitation Firearm Safety Act.”
According to the Daily Mail, Lopez’s “BB gun would have fallen under the guidelines established by the new bill, should it be signed into law, and would have been a neon color instead of the dark brown that threw officers off.”
NBC4 Los Angeles reports that critics of Evans’ bill are worried criminals “will simply paint their guns in a rainbow of hues to fake cops out.”
