Breitbart News will be broadcasting live coverage of the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address November 19 starting at 10:00 AM EST.
Breitbart News’ Chairman Stephen K. Bannon will be covering the event. He will be interviewing Harvard Professor Dr. Drew Gulpin Faust, who wrote This Republic of Suffering: Death and the American Civil War. It details how the incredible suffering of Civil War battles impacted individual lives and American culture.
The event will begin in the Soldier’s National Cemetery at 10:00 AM and will feature keynote speaker James McPherson, one of the country’s foremost Civil War historians and author of Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era, and Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell.
The event is being sponsored by Gettysburg National Military Park, the Gettysburg Foundation, the Lincoln Fellowship of Pennsylvania, and Gettysburg College. It will feature music by the U.S. Marine Corps band and a reading of the Gettysburg Address by Lincoln impersonator James Getty.
The original dedication at Gettysburg took place months after the great confrontation between Union and Confederate armies on July 1-3, 1863, as the town had only just finished burying the dead and beginning the process of rebuilding. Lincoln followed a two-hour speech by famed orator and Massachusetts statesman Edward Everett, but the President’s three-minute and no more than 273 word commemoration would overshadow his counterpart’s in the American mind.
Lincoln’s words helped a nation plunged into war and facing ruin begin the process of healing and rebuilding.
