It’s hunting season in Pennsylvania, and gun and department stores throughout the state report the demand for ammunition is exceeding the supply.

According to TheRecordHerald.com, outlets like Hunters Den Inc. in Waynesboro say they were not completely able to recover from the last run on ammo before this latest one began.

Hunters Den’s Stuart McFerren said, “We’re keeping up now, but that’s all. We’re going to fall behind when people come charging in for their last minute everything. They’re not going to get it.”

At Keystone Country Store in Fort Loudon, manager Pat Rosenberry says they have ammo now, “but not in the quantity [they] normally do.”

Even now Rosenberry said certain ammo calibers disappear “as soon as it hits the shelf.”

Long before hunting season began, gun sales were already up in PA. Background checks for firearm sales and/or transfers rose “roughly 25 percent from 2011 to 2012.” That was “1 million background checks… requested” in 2012″ vs. “739,682 the year before.”
