Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Tuesday that he thinks New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who is likely to win re-election Tuesday, is a “moderate.”
“I think every individual race is a little bit different, but I think the Republican Party is a big party and we need moderates like Chris Christie who can win in New Jersey in our party,” Paul said. “What that means about the national party, I’m not sure there is an answer. But we do need moderates like Chris Christie in the party.”
Paul’s comments about Christie came after Christie told CNN’s Jake Tapper earlier on Tuesday that he thinks of himself as a conservative.
“I’m a conservative,” Christie said in an interview with Tapper. “I’ve governed as a conservative in this state, and I think that’s led to some people disagreeing with me in our state, because it’s generally a left-of-center, blue state.”
