Reacting fiercely to race-baiting remarks made by Democrat Alan Grayson and by entertainer Harry Belafonte at a New York City mayoral candidate’s campaign event, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus blamed President Obama for creating a “culture of hatred.”
Last month, Grayson distributed a fundraising email implying the Tea Party was a racially prejudiced movement, posting an image of a burning cross. Belafonte compared the Koch brothers to the Ku Klux Klan, saying at a rally for Democrat Bill de Blasio, “They make up the heart and the thinking in the minds of those who would belong to the Ku Klux Klan. They are white supremacists.”
Speaking on Monday on Fox News’s “Hannity,” Priebus shamed Obama and Democrats for not making a concerted effort to come forth and discourage these blatantly disparaging remarks. The RNC chairman directly blamed the President, saying, “I think he should take ownership over this divisive culture that he has created.”
Priebus’s Democratic analogue, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, confessed in a statement that she was “disappointed in the use of that imagery” in Grayson’s email.
