Assemblyman Tim Donnelly (R-33) will officially announce his candidacy for Governor of California on Wedneday, according to a press release from his campaign. Donnelly will contest the GOP nomination to take on incumbent Democrat Jerry Brown, who is popular despite the state’s continuing fiscal and economic woes.
Donnelly will make the announcement in the state’s Central Valley, an agricultural region hurt by federally-ordered water restrictions to save a fish species.
“I have traveled to the Central Valley more than a dozen times this past year,” said Donnelly, in a statement.
“California has a jobs crisis but it’s even worse here in the Central Valley, and the politicians in Sacramento are completely out of touch with constituents here. The Governor and the Democrat majority legislature have done very little to help the Central Valley. It’s time for a change. It’s time for a new vision. We must help the hard-working people who serve as the breadbasket to the world, so that the family farms throughout this region can sustain their small businesses and leave their farms to the next generation of Californians.”
Donnelly represents the Assembly’s 33rd district, comprising many of the high desert towns on the popular route between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, Nevada. He is best known statewide as an advocate of gun rights.
