Last-Minute Money in Virginia Governor's Race Flooding into McAuliffe Campaign

The Virginia Public Access Project (VPAP) released campaign donation results Wednesday that show last-minute money in the Virginia gubernatorial race is flooding into the campaign of Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe.

According to VPAP, McAuliffe’s campaign reported last-minute donations in excess of $5,000 totaling $1.1 million during the five-day, pre-election reporting period that began on Wednesday, October 23 and ended on Sunday, October 27. In contrast, Cuccinelli’s campaign reported last-minute donations in excess of $5,000 totaling $147,000 during the same five-day period.

Under Virginia law, candidates for statewide office are “required to report any large, last minute donations… of more than $5,000… by the next business day.”

Cuccinelli’s Republican downticket colleague, attorney general candidate Mark Obenshain, reported $1.3 million in last-minute donations exceeding $5,000 during this five-day period.
