CO Gov. Asks Outside Gun Control Groups to Stay Away in Latest Recall

With Democrats holding a razor-thin, one-vote advantage in the Colorado Senate, Governor John Hickenlooper (D) is asking outside gun control groups not to get involved in the “looming recall” of state senator Evie Hudak (D-Dist. 19).

Democrats hold an 18-17 advantage in the state’s Senate following the successful recalls of Sens. John Morse (D-Colorado Springs) and Angela Giron (D-Pueblo) in September. Now Hickenlooper fears that if Coloradans see gun control groups and individuals like NYC Mayor Bloomberg pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into the state to support Hudak, there will be a similar revolt at the polls.

According to USA Today, Hickenlooper said, “Colorado is a state that people like to be themselves and solve their own problems. They don’t really like outside organizations meddling in their affairs.”

Hickenlooper said the NRA is the exception to this rule because of their broad-based support throughout Colorado. The governor said “the NRA gets a pass on [getting involved in the recall].”

Those trying recall Hudak on the ballot have until Dec. 3 to collect the necessary 18,900 signatures. More information on their efforts can be found at RecallHudakToo.org.
