Appearing on CBS’ Face the Nation, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) asked for Vice President Joe Biden to step in and help broker a deal over the government shutdown, stating, “maybe we need to get Joe Biden out of the witness protection program.” He said “I’m glad that negotiations are going on. I’m disappointed that twice…we were close to a deal and the Democrats moved the goalposts, in light of the polling data.”

McCain criticized President Obama for not being as active as President Clinton was during the 1995 shutdown, stating he was “disappointed” in Obama. Democrats, McCain continued, needed to be “magnanimous and get things done… I know what it’s like to be in the majority and in the minority, and it won’t be forgotten.”
