In July, the House voted to delay ObamaCare’s employer and individual mandate for one year. The action came after the White House announced it would selectively ignore the law and not enforce the employer mandate until 2015. The House vote would extend that courtesy to average Americans, who currently are forced to have health insurance by January, 2014. Twenty-two House Democrats supported the one-year delay. Will those Democrats now support the House effort to defund ObamaCare?
On Friday, the House will take up a measure to continue government funding through December, but also strip funds necessary to implement the ObamaCare law. While most of the funds supporting ObamaCare aren’t subject to Congressional appropriations, stripping funding would block enforcement of many of the law’s mandates. In other words, if one believes that the law’s mandates should be delayed, voting to strip funding is a significant step to ensuring that happens.

We will know soon whether their vote to delay ObamaCare was real or political posturing. If you believe ObamaCare should be delayed for a year, there is no reason not to support defunding the law for a few months.
