Cooler weather began to settle in to Rahm Emanuel’s bloody Chicago over last weekend, bringing a slight relief to the ongoing violence the city has experienced this summer, but residents are still concerned about their safety on Chicago’s deadly streets for good reason.
HeyJackass.com reports, while there were just two people killed this past weekend with nine shot, however, there has been a staggering 21 homicides, 19 from shootings, with a 78 shot and injured so far this September–the same number dead to date as September 2012.
After Labor Day weekend’s literal massacre on the city’s south and west sides with more than 25 shot and at least 11 killed, and August’s 53 total homicides, the first week of September opened with 10 murders, one more than the first the first week of September last year.
Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy continue to brag about lower crime rates overall, but there is little solace for the residents of this city whose friends and families have been devastated with the loss of loved ones.
Just last week Emanuel received a glowing approval from The Late Show with David Letterman’s audience after once again bragging of the city’s 24% drop in shootings and violent crime. He went onto push for “universal background checks” as the real solution to the murder epidemic Chicago continues to face.
There have been 268 shot and killed this year, 1378 shot and wounded and 323 total homicides.
