On September 16 the House GOP is releasing a new report on the Benghazi attack, to be followed by a hearing on the 18th.
The report is being issued by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chair Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA). It looks at “shortcomings” in the Accountability Review Board (ARB) investigation of the September 11, 2012 attack and asks specifically why an investigation “convened by then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton… held only four mid-level officials accountable at the Benghazi site.”
According to The Washington Post, “virtually all the issues” covered in the new report have been covered before. But Issa says there is need to do so again because documentation was withheld during previous investigations and/or key officials were prevented from giving testimony.
The Obama administration admits “resisting” the request to allow certain diplomatic security personnel to appear before Issa’s committee, but claims they have cooperated on other fronts.
Issa’s report also looks at the structure of the ARB investigation, claiming it was biased in favor of the State Department from the start.
