On Friday in Oklahoma, Australian baseball star Christopher Lane was murdered while jogging in Oklahoma. Three teens have now been charged: Chancey Luna, 16, James Edwards, 15, and Michael Jones, 17.
Former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer has said that Australian tourists should stop visiting the United States, at least until the country enacted stricter gun control laws. “Tourists thinking of going to the USA should think twice,” said Fischer. “This is the bitter harvest and legacy of the policies of the NRA that even blocked background checks for people buying guns at gunshows. People should take this into account before going to the United States. I am deeply angry about this because of the callous attitude of the three teenagers (but) it’s a sign of the proliferation of guns on the ground in the USA. There is a gun for almost every American.”
The three teens have reportedly confessed to shooting Lane. One allegedly drove a car while Luna allegedly fired the shot that killed Lane. According to the police chief, the three teens “just wanted to kill someone,” and were on their way to kill a second victim when they were arrested.
