The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has a new ad that uses a “dramatic reenactment” in an effort to turn the tide against Stand Your Ground laws in the United States.
As This Week reports, the ad uses “actual 911 calls from Zimmerman” and mixes them with “a witness re-imagining the incident.”
The video never shows Martin bashing Zimmerman’s head against the pavement, but it does show an actor impersonating Martin, who goes down after being shot and holds up his hand as if to say, “Okay.” The actor falls into a lawn containing 25 other bodies, representing all 26 states with Stand Your Ground laws.
The ad then flashes the following text on the screen: “Our laws should protect victims, not create more.”
The ad does not mention that George Zimmerman was found “not guilty” in July after his defense team argued the shooting was in self-defense. His attorneys did not reference Stand Your Ground during the trial.
The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence ends their ad with an appeal for people to “Stand up to ‘Stand Your Ground’ Laws in 26 States.”
