On Fox News Sunday, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) challenged President Barack Obama to defend and own his National Security Agency’s surveillance programs, saying he believed information about the programs were being distorted because of Obama’s relative silence.
“It’s up to the president to come forward and defend it,” King said. “This is the president’s program. The president of the United States should be much more aggressive [in defending it].”
King noted Obama has been “relatively silent,” speaking about the surveillance programs on just two occasions.
“He should be out there addressing the nation on this, going into details,” King said.
King made his remarks after an internal audit revealed the NSA has repeatedly violated the privacy rights of Americans.
