Weiner: 'I Do' Know Huma's Role in Hillary's 2016 Run

On Monday, embattled New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner said he knew what role Huma Abedin–his wife and Hillary Clinton confidante–would have in Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, but he would not reveal what exactly her role would be. 

Clinton has not made any formal announcements about her 2016 plans, but many Democrats expect her to run for president.

In an interview with BuzzFeed Editor-in-Chief Ben Smith at a”,BuzzFeed Brews” event, Weiner was asked of his wife, “Do you know what her role in Hillary’s 2016 campaign is going to be?”

“I do,” Weiner answered. 

Smith then asked, “What will it be?”

“I’m not telling you,” Weiner replied. 

Abedin, whom the Clintons have referred to as their “second daughter,” has been Clinton’s top and most trusted aide spanning over a decade and heads her transition office. 

Nearly two weeks ago, after more of Weiner’s sexting escapades came to light, Abedin reportedly took an “extended vacation” from her duties as chief of staff of Clinton’s transition team to focus on rehabilitating her husband’s image in the mayoral race. 

Weiner acknowledged to Smith that his actions have damaged Abedin professionally and potentially hurt her standing in a potential Clinton 2016 campaign.

Many staffers reportedly joined the Weiner campaign in order to get a potential leg up on working on a potential Clinton campaign. Smith acknowledged that up until last week Abedin was the “point of entry” for anyone who wanted “to get something from Hillary or work with Hillary.” 

When Smith asked if Abedin was going to return to that role after the campaign, Weiner answered, “you’ll have to ask her.”
