The Republican Party says it will boycott the July 25th nomination hearing for Obama’s pick for Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security.
The nominee, Alejandro Mayorkas, is currently being investigated over allegations that he “used his current role as director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services” to obtain “investment visas for a Chinese firm linked to Hillary Clinton’s brother.”
According to The Hill, Senate Homeland Security Committee ranking member Tom Coburn (R-OK) said “it makes no sense to hold a nomination hearing” for Mayorkas until these issues are cleared up. But Committee Chairman Tom Carper (D-DE) said the hearing will go forward anyway.
