At 11:45 a.m. local time, a Chicago man was shot in a parking lot outside the Meadows Golf Club in Blue Island. The man, Orville Nero, practiced golf, then went to his car to put his clubs away, when another car drove up and began firing at him. Nero was shot several times. Police believe that this was a case of mistaken identity. One witness, Carlotta Thornton, said, “I couldn’t see anything except the policemen were out here, a lot of them…I guess it’s bad everywhere. You know, where can you go?” A course worker found the victim outside his car with three shell casings on the ground.
