According to a poll conducted by the University of Texas/Texas Tribune and reported by National Review, nearly two-thirds of Texas residents support a ban on abortions after 20-weeks.
Of those polled, 62 percent of respondents supported a post-20 week abortion ban.
In a Gallup poll from last year–nationally focused rather than state-specific–64 percent of respondents said abortion should be illegal not after 20-weeks or 18 weeks or 15 weeks–but after 12-weeks. Twelve weeks is the same time-frame after which abortions are illegal “in Belgium and France.”
Wendy Davis, who came to national attention for her attempt to filibuster the ban in the Texas legislature, tried to dismiss the need for the ban in the first place by claiming that “less than 1 percent” of all abortions in Texas took place after 20-weeks, even before the bill was passed.
