On Monday, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced that President Obama would not be involving himself in the Justice Department decision on whether to prosecute George Zimmerman under federal civil rights laws. According to Carney, “it would be inappropriate” for Obama to comment.
That same rationale did not stop Obama in March 2012, when Obama infamously sounded off on the Martin case by stating, “I can only imagine what these parents are going through, and when I think about this boy, I think about my own kids, and I think every parent in America should be able to understand why it is absolutely imperative that we investigate every aspect of this and that everybody pulls together, federal, state and local, to figure out how this tragedy happened…You know, if I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”
