Carney to Reporter: 'Read the Federal Register, I Know that'd Be a Lot to Ask'

On Wednesday, White House spokesman Jay Carney became irritated when he was pressed about whether it was legal for the Obama administration to delay Obamacare’s employer mandate, which requires businesses that employ 50 or more people to provide health coverage or pay federal fines. 

“I invite you to read the Federal Register,” Carney responded when pressed. “I know that’d be a lot to ask.”

The Obama administration recently announced the one-year delay, which prompted Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) this week to say to the New York Times, “This was the law. How can they change the law?” 

Carney said reporters should read “all the examples of [delays]” in the Federal Register. He claimed “the fact of the matter is this is not unusual.”
