Despite the media’s attempt to cast Democrat Texas State Senator Wendy Davis as a people’s hero after her 11-hour filibuster over preserving late-term abortion, Davis runs significantly behind Governor Rick Perry, a proponent of the bill at issue, in a prospective gubernatorial race. According to Democratic polling firm Public Policy Polling, Davis has a 39 percent favorable to 29 percent unfavorable split. In a head-to-head against Perry, however, she is blown out of the water by a 53 percent to 39 percent margin. That’s marginally worse than current San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, who goes down 50-43.
Even among women, Perry is substantially ahead against Davis, by a margin of 49 percent to 43 percent. And Davis’ base is not likely to grow much from where it is now – her name recognition is already very good thanks to her filibuster, which was more popular than not (45-40).
