A group of pro-life female lawmakers and activists are hastening efforts toward a political showdown with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her larger group of pro-abortion women politicians.
The Washington Examiner reports that the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List (SBA-List) hopes to offer a direct challenge to Emily’s List, the well-funded liberal organization that puts its resources behind pro-abortion candidates.
SBA-List’s “farm team” is called the National Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, and it plans to recruit and organize pro-life women in state legislatures and statewide offices throughout the country.
“We are the counter to Emily’s List,” said Marilyn Musgrave, former House member and vice president of SBA-List. “Things happen in the states and then Washington follows.”
The endeavor, which will complement the current Congressional Pro-Life Women’s Caucus, includes Gov. Jan Brewer (R-AZ), Gov. Mary Fallin (R-OK), Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann (R-IN), and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch (R-WI).
In a statement to Breitbart News, Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of SBA-List, said:
The aim of the National Pro-life Women’s Caucus will be to highlight the leadership of women state lawmakers who are already leading the charge to defend women and unborn children across the country. The caucus will foster a sense of community, and connect these leaders with the resources they need to pass laws that save lives. Finally, the caucus will also expand the SBA List’s ‘farm team,’ of pro-life women, and encourage those dedicated to advancing the pro-life, pro-woman cause to run for higher office.
“Women are the best messengers when it comes to defending the lives of the unborn and the integrity of motherhood,” said Gov. Brewer. “I am proud to be a part of this national effort to highlight the leadership of lawmakers who are leading the charge to protect innocent unborn human life and women from the violence of abortion.”
