Obama Rewards Top Donors With Ambassadorships

On Friday, President Barack Obama rewarded some of his top 2012 campaign fundraisers with appointments to coveted European ambassadorships.

John Emerson, who raised $500,000 for Obama, was given an ambassadorship to Germany. In the 2008 campaign, Emerson raised between $100,000 and $200,000 for Obama.

Obama finance director Rufus Gifford was named ambassador to Denmark. Gifford is also the former Democratic National Committee director and served as chairman of the president’s inaugural committee.

James Costos, who donated $67,000, scored an appointment to become the U.S. ambassador in Spain. Costos is an HBO executive.

Obama’s ambassador appointees now move on for Senate confirmation.
