McCain: Boston Bombing Proves Rand Wrong

On CNN’s State of the Union, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) ripped into Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) over Paul’s suggestion in 2012 that governmental portrayal of the war on terror battlefield being inside the United States opened the door to violation of rights. “Just prior to the Boston bombing, he said the battlefield was no longer in America,” said McCain. “He’s the only one that voted that Iran must not be … contained in the pursuit of nuclear weapons. I disagree.”

During Paul’s famous filibuster of CIA director John Brennan’s nomination over the Obama administration’s drone policy, Paul stated, “Alarm bells should go off when people tell you that the battlefield’s in America. Why? Because when the battlefield’s in America, we don’t have due process. What they’re talking about is they want the laws of war.”

McCain was referring to Paul’s vote against a September 2012 nonbinding resolution regarding Iran’s nuclear program. Paul said that such a vote was technically a declaration of war.

Sunday morning, Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) responded: “The Constitution proves Sen McCain wrong every day.”
