Steele Hinting at Run for Governor of Maryland

Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is hinting every chance he gets that he wants to run for governor of Maryland, where he was once lieutenant governor. Steele, who is now a contributor on MSNBC, told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd on Monday, “We’re looking at it. You’re going take a look at the numbers. Maryland’s a tough state, there are a lot of challenges there.”

Steele was echoing his comments of last week on WMAL radio, where he said,  “I’m looking at it. We’ll see what the numbers tell us.”

Steele served as lieutenant governor of Maryland, then in 2006 ran and lost for the Senate seat won by Ben Cardin (D), who was reelected in 2012.

Steele was chairman of the RNC when the Tea Party’s massive victory in 2010 occurred, but the RNC was noted for massive spending during his tenure. He lost the chairmanship to Reince Priebus in 2011.
