At a press conference on Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner addressed the growing scandal of the IRS targeting tea party and conservative organizations. “My question isn’t about ‘Who is going to resign?'”, Boehner said. “My question is ‘Who is going to jail over this scandal?'”
USA Today has a good synopsis of the troubling IRS scandal:
As applications from conservative groups sat in limbo, groups with liberal-sounding names had their applications approved in as little as nine months. With names including words like “Progress” or “Progressive,” the liberal groups applied for the same tax status and were engaged in the same kinds of activities as the conservative groups.
The burdensome information requests of conservative groups seems much less like case of over-zealous IRS staffers and more a deliberate political action.
Brian Baker, President of Ending Spending applauded Boehner’s statement. “The IRS was simply following the orders of those in the Administration and Democrats in Congress who want to use the government to limit free speech and demonize their political opponents.” Baker told Breitbart News. “Speaker Boehner is absolutely correct… heads should roll, and roll right to jail.”
