From the beginning of the year Obama took office till now, 73,219,367 background checks have been conducted for gun purchases by the FBI.
And keep in mind, this number reflects gun purchasers not guns purchased.
In other words, those 73,219,367 people may have bought two guns each–or more.
It’s also interesting to note that the FBI statistics on these background checks show annual gun purchases have grown markedly during the last three years. 2011 and 2012 had the highest number of background checks of any years on record, but 2013 is on course to be the year with the most background checks ever–8,728,673 were performed from Jan. 1 to April 30 alone.
