CNN reported on Friday that Zubeidat Tsarnaev, the mother of Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, was placed on the federal government’s terror watch list in 2011.
According to CNN, Tsarnaev was added to the list in response to warnings to American authorities delivered by Russian officials:
U.S. authorities did add Zubeidat Tsarnaev and her older son to the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment, or TIDE, database in 2011 — a collection of more than a half million names maintained by the National Counterterrorism Center, an intelligence official said.
Local Boston television station WCVB elaborated on that news on Friday, reporting, “The FBI interviewed Zubeidat Tsarnaeva about concerns that her son, Tamerlan, was taking a radical turn, but cleared both of them.”
Ms. Tsarnaeva also told CNN on Friday that neither she nor her husband now currently plan on traveling to the United States; they have moved from their respective residences in Dagestan to an undisclosed location elsewhere in Russia.
