Megyn Kelly of Fox News reported on Thursday that Richard DesLauriers, the FBI’s Special Agent in Charge of the Boston office and head of the Joint Terrorism Task Force of Boston investigating the Boston Marathon bombings, will hold a press conference at 5 PM Eastern on Thursday.
This will be his first press conference in two days. DesLauriers last met with the press on Tuesday afternoon.
The only major communication from the JTTF of Boston since Tuesday came on Wednesday afternoon, when the Boston FBI office’s website released this statement:
Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting.
Two press conferences scheduled to be held on Wednesday evening, which could have shed light on this statement, were abruptly cancelled by FBI representatives in Boston.
The media, desperate for news on the status of the investigation, has been forced to rely on leaks from various law enforcement agencies involved in the investigation. Many of these leaks have proven to be incorrect.
