Arizona Congressman Paul Gosar sent a letter to Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Bob Goodlatte to push for a hearing for his Resolution of No Confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder. He filed the resolution in December 2011 as a result of Holder’s involvement in Operation Fast and Furious.
Fast and Furious was a gun walking operation out of Phoenix, AZ where the ATF watched over 2,500 guns fall into the hands of Mexican drug cartels but did nothing to intercept them. Guns from the operation were found at the murder scenes of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and hundreds of Mexican citizens. Many weapons are still missing.
The House of Representatives voted to hold Holder in contempt for not complying with an October 2011 subpoena to turn over documents pertaining to Fast and Furious. To date no one has been held accountable for the operation. No one knows who came up with Fast and Furious or who approved it.
“As the Obamas step up their unconstitutional gun grabbing efforts, it is imperative we not forget the role the U.S. Department of Justice, through its Attorney General, had in facilitating the trafficking of thousands of firearms to violent Mexican cartels through the use of straw purchasers,” Gosar said in a statement.
The government should not engage in illegal activities that would send anyone else to jail for a long time. Passing my Resolution of No Confidence in Attorney General Holder is an important step acknowledging that Congress will not stand by as bureaucrats abuse public trust and put lives at risk with no consequence.
Gosar wants a hearing on his resolution to showcase President Obama’s hypocrisy on guns.
“The hypocrisy of President Obama’s latest attempts to restrict the lawful and constitutionally protected rights of Americans to own firearms while protecting Attorney General Holder is astounding,” said Gosar. “This Administration has specifically touted the need for tougher laws to prevent straw purchases and stricter penalties for the type of straw purchases used in Fast and Furious while allowing those who ran the operation to evade consequences.”
Over 115 members of the House support Gosar’s resolution; Goodlatte was one of the original cosponsors. Gosar wants the Judiciary Committee to continue the investigation into Fast and Furious. There is still not a set court date for Holder’s contempt charge. A hearing on Gosar’s resolution is one way to get more documents about Fast and Furious. Gosar also added a measure to ask for Holder’s immediate resignation.
