According to news reports from local radio in San Antonio, Texas, illegal immigration across the Mexican border has jumped this year, with the Obama administration’s clear desire to loosen immigration enforcement a key factor. According to Linda Vickers, a ranch-owner in Brooks County, told WOAI that she watched illegal immigrants taunt border enforcement agents even as they were being arrested: “The Border Patrol agent was loading one man up, and he told the officer in Spanish, ‘Obama’s gonna let me go.'”
WOAI also reports that border patrol agents say that illegal immigrants are surrendering directly to them, asking, “Where do I go for my amnesty?”
Brooks County is known statewide for its large number of illegal immigrant deaths thanks to smuggling from the Rio Grande Valley. Vickers says that smugglers are lying to would-be illegal immigrants, telling them that they will get amnesty if they cross the border now.
