Cuccinelli: McAuliffe OK With Letting Sexual Predator Off With Slap On Wrist

“They are so desperate,” Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said of the Terry McAuliffe for Governor campaign this morning on “Mornings on the Mall” on WMAL-FM in Washington DC. The GOP nominee for governor was responding to the ongoing political games played by the McAuliffe camp as they try to dig out of a hole they began shoveling two days ago. The McAuliffe camp accused Cuccinelli of anti-gay bias for using Virginia’s anti-sodomy law to throw the book at a 47-year-old man convicted of a sexual act with a minor girl. He was convicted of a felony under the anti-sodomy law and a misdemeanor for “contributing to the delinquency of a minor.” The latter charge carried a light punishment so Cuccinelli pressed for enforcement of the anti-sodomy law so the sexual predator in question could suffer the harshest penalty he could.

After the Cuccinelli campaign pushed back hard on McAuliffe’s attempt to politicize the issue, the media in Virginia have begun asking the Democrat the logical question: “If you were Governor, would you convict the 47-year-old sexual predator to the fullest extent of the law, or would you settle for the slap on the wrist misdemeanor?” His criticism of Cuccinelli’s vigorous prosecution suggests McAuliffe would apt for the latter thus letting the middle-aged predator convicted of a sex crime off with little or no repercussions.

To date, the McAuliffe campaign has not answered the basic question.Cuccinelli pressed hard on the issue this morning when my co-host, Brian Wilson, asked him to sum up his response to McAuliffe’s implication that Cucinelli “doesn’t like gay people.” Cuccinelli provided a succinct and devastating retort: “We convicted a 47-year-old for propositioning a 17-year-old and McAuliffe thinks that’s a bad idea. “
