The Secret Service security detail for First Daughters Sasha and Malia Obama “shut down” an Idaho retailer in the latest turn of their spring break vacation, according to an eyewitness. President Barack Obama recently cited Secret Service staffing issues due to sequester cuts as the reason for cancelled White House tours.
A resident of Sun Valley, Idaho reached out Friday afternoon to Breitbart News to report eyewitness accounts of the First Daughters, Sasha and Malia, vacationing in Idaho. The eyewitness reported seeing the First Daughters twice in the last two days.
“We’re used to a lot of celebrities here,” the eyewitness told Breitbart News, “so no one really paid attention to them.” Sun Valley is a luxury resort that is often visited by celebrities and other A-list personalities.
“Yesterday, they were at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory,” the eyewitness continued. “There were a few bodyguards with them. Today they were at Burnsies, a high-end clothing retailer. Their security basically shut down the store.”
The First Family does pay for the direct lodging costs of these vacations. The travel and security costs, however, are billed to the taxpayers. The White House is currently closed to students from around the country, allegedly because of sequester budget cuts affecting the Secret Service.
The Secret Service accompanied the First Daughters to Paradise Island in the Bahamas before arriving in Idaho for this ski trip.
The White House on Friday convinced a local Idaho news affiliate to scrub a story of the vacation from their website. In 2012, it similarly asked news outlets to delete reports of over two dozen Secret Service agents accompanying Malia Obama on a spring break trip to Mexico.
