On March 27 President Barack Obama met with Newtown, Conn. families and members of law enforcement for an event focused on the push for more gun control.

The event marked the 100th day since the heinous crime at Sandy Hook Elementary, and Obama was trying to keep attention on the gun control measures that will be considered by the Senate next month.

These measures include expanded background checks, gun trafficking legislation, and funding for school security. Missing, however, are the key pieces of legislation Obama wanted–an “assault weapons” ban and a “high capacity” magazine ban.

The “assault weapons” ban is expected to come up for a vote as an amendment to other legislation, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and others have already indicated it will not pass.

Nevertheless, the White House says that even a vote on an “assault weapons” ban is “progress.”
