Nevada Democrats May Kick Out Twice-Arrested Assemblyman

This evening, a select committee of the Nevada General Assembly will meet to consider whether the chamber will oust Las Vegas Assemblyman Steven Brooks. Brooks, a Democrat, would be the first member of the Assembly to be ousted by his colleagues.

Since taking his seat on February 4th, Brooks has been arrested twice in bizarre incidents. First, he was arrested on charges of physically threatening fellow Democrat, Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick. He was also arrested on a domestic disturbance involving his wife. He has also been forcibly detained to undergo a mental evaluation.

He has been barred from entering the legislature. The motto, “What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas,” only works if you don’t live there.
