News Organizations May Adopt Drone Technology

For decades, Americans have been used to hearing the sound of helicopters when hearing traffic reports on the radio. But in the near future, manned helicopters for news purposes may be replaced by drone cameras, according to Mike Cavendar, executive director of the Radio Television Digital News Association.

“The ability to put a camera, if you will, high above a news event or a situation for which you want coverage, at minimal expense, when you compare it to a live, staffed helicopter, I think that’s a potentially tremendous advantage for a news station,” he told CBS Philadelphia.

Should drone technology replace human-driven helicopters, rights to privacy could be significantly impeded.
