New Jersey Democratic Sen. Robert Menendez hustled away from this reporter at an Amtrak station in Newark, New Jersey when asked last week about his alleged flight on Democratic Party mega-donor Dr. Salomon Melgen’s plane on Easter Sunday in 2012.
Menendez was traveling alone on Thursday, March 14th, from Washington, D.C., to New Jersey in the first class cabin of the 2119 Acela train. The train left Union Station at 8 p.m. and its final destination was Penn Station in New York City.
When Menendez exited the train at Newark Penn Station, this reporter exited with him and approached him asking for a photograph. After taking the picture, this reporter asked: “But, just a quick question. With the whole scandal and everything, why won’t you just come out and say where you were Easter Sunday 2012? Just clear things up?”
Menendez did not answer the question. “Basically, the people who have all said that have all filed affidavits saying they lied,” he deflected, and immediately began to rush toward the exit.
Here’s what a transcript of what happened next:
BIGELOW: Well, were you on (Dr. Sal) Melgen’s plane then?…on that day?
MENENDEZ: Uh…I think you want more than a picture. Take care.
BIGELOW: No. Were you there? I think the people of America and New Jersey deserve to know, right?
MENENDEZ: I think the people at the Daily Caller–the people lie.
BIGELOW: I’m not with the Daily Caller…
MENENDEZ: I’m just telling you the people (inaudible) lied.
BIGELOW: I don’t think they lied, but I think the American people deserve to know.
MENENDEZ: (inaudible) they filed affidavits.
Menendez shouldered through a door, climbed onto an escalator, and vanished from site immediately thereafter.
The real question is this: why won’t Menendez just release his travel records?
Flight path records from Melgen’s private jet obtained by Breitbart News show Melgen’s plane left West Palm Beach, Florida, for Teterboro, New Jersey, then flew straight to the Dominican Republic on Easter Sunday. In addition to those records, Menendez’s and Melgen’s friend Vinicio Castillo Seman appears to have confirmed Menendez was indeed in the Dominican Republic during Easter.
Menendez and his staff have consistently refused to answer when asked whether the senator flew on Melgen’s plane to the Dominican Republic on Easter Sunday 2012.
“I’ve known Menendez as a friend and of my cousin Salomon Melgen,” Castillo said recently. “No one has come forward on the allegations and evil accusations, we spend every Easter together in Casa de Campo.”
On top of all that, an eyewitness recently told Breitbart News he saw Menendez and Melgen dining together at a New Jersey diner a mile or so from Teterboro airport on Easter Sunday in 2012. Menendez and Melgen allegedly dined in that restaurant while Melgen’s plane refueled.
